CAC October General Meeting – Explore 2016!

Our CAC October General Meeting will kick off the Explore 2016 Curriculum and Career Expo at 9:00am until 10:00am in the Spartan Auditorium. Attendees should enter at Building H on the west side of the campus. Please see the interactive ECC map at: http://elgin.edu/maps.aspx. Ample parking is available in the lot to the west. We hope you will join us for an overview of the CTE program before heading into the Expo.

The Explore 2016: A U-46 Community Curriculum and Career Expo aims to engage, excite, and inform fifth through 12th grade students, community and business members about U-46 course and career pathways to help students better prepare for college and careers. The Fair runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Alignment Collaborative for Education (ACE) in partnership with School District U-46 the Citizens’ Advisory Council (CAC) is presenting this event to showcase U-46 class offerings that build college and career readiness as well as local employers and jobs in the region that require the skills taught in the District’s classes. Come learn about:

  • Middle School and High School Classes
  • High School Academies
  • Graduation Requirements
  • Curriculum and Career Pathways

5th Annual Special Needs Parent Resource Fair

The Special Needs Parent Resource Fair offers parents the opportunity to learn about the programs local service agencies and non-profits provide for our special needs community.  Attending agencies cover a full range of service categories, including autism, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, hearing and sight, special recreation, developmental delays and physical disabilities.

Special Needs Parent Resource Fair

The Citizens’ Advisory Council and the U-46 Special Education Department are offering a free Special Needs Parent Resource Fair from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, in Elgin.  The event is an opportunity for families to learn about the services and programs that local, regional, and state agencies provide for our special needs community.  The event is open to the public and for all those with an interest in special needs services.

Programming will include presentations hosted by local service providers and by District U-46. Advanced Behavioral Solutions, By Your Side and Kaitlin’s Hideout will lead a keynote presentation titled “Thriving at Home: Homework, Behavior & Schedules” at 10:00am. Bartlett Little League’s Challenger Division and area Special Recreation Associations will present “Special Recreation for Your Child” at 11:20am. Two district/clinician panel discussions focusing on O/T and Sensory Strategies, and Speech Therapy Services will be held at 9:05am and 12:10pm, respectively.

Over 40 service agencies will be in attendance to distribute information and meet with parents.  They include Learning Disabilities Association of Illinois, UPS for DownS, The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, Shriners Hospitals for Children Chicago, Celebrate Differences, Family Resource Center on Disabilities, Autism Society of Illinois, Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Illinois, and Illinois Life Span Project.
